Biosipec – Neovia Vietnam Introduces High-Tech Intensive Shrimp Farming Project

Press Release

On September 22, 2017, Neovia Vietnam officially introduced its new high-tech intensive shrimp farming project – Biosipec – at its Aquaculture R&D Center. The event was attended by Mr. Hubert de Roquefeuil, CEO of Neovia Group. The project, developed for whiteleg shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei), is based on innovative ideas integrating feed solutions with high-end technologies such as biosecurity, water treatment, aeration systems, and digital tools.

After conducting in-depth research on whiteleg shrimp farming in Vietnam—considering factors such as seed quality, weather, and farming risks—Mr. Raynaud Thomas, Aquaculture Technical Director at Neovia Vietnam, successfully developed a farming technique that exceeded expectations. Biosipec minimizes risks, reduces energy costs, and lowers environmental impact, while significantly increasing shrimp productivity per crop—ultimately maximizing profitability for farmers.

Biosipec incorporates several advanced technologies, including:

  • A water treatment system to enhance biosecurity and prevent disease outbreaks.
  • A specialized aeration system that reduces energy consumption while optimizing oxygen levels.
  • An automatic feeding system with sound sensors that dispenses feed based on shrimp demand, thereby reducing the feed conversion ratio (FCR).

Mr. Raynaud shared:
“According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), in the first half of this year, Vietnamese shrimp exports increased by 15.7% compared to the same period in 2016, generating USD 1.56 billion in revenue. This upward trend is expected to continue through the second half of the year, especially during the holiday season with high global demand. Nutrition and farming techniques play a critical role in determining the quality and yield of shrimp. With Biosipec, we demonstrate that it is possible to produce shrimp successfully, differently, and sustainably. Biosipec enables up to 5 production cycles per year with a yield of 30 tons/ha/crop.”

Through this project, Neovia Vietnam reinforces its commitment to promoting sustainable aquaculture development in Vietnam.
