The Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum
In the summer of 2022, we visited the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum (1913-1994) – the 37th President of the United States (1969 – 1974).
The Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum is located at 18001 Yorba Linda Blvd., Yorba Linda, in Orange County, California. In July 1969, President Richard Nixon used the phone to talk to astronauts aboard Apollo 11 after astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin Eugene “Buzz” Aldrin, Jr. the first humans to walk on the moon, and astronaut Michael Collins orbiting the moon in the Apollo 11 command module. Sikorsky VH 3A “Sea King” – a 16-seat helicopter used by Presidents Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon and Ford is on display here. During his presidential service, the helicopter was known as Marine One or Army One, depending on whether the Marine or Army pilot operated it. President Richard Nixon used the helicopter on more than 180 trips, including visits abroad. In August 1974, after President Richard Nixon resigned, this helicopter flew him and his family from the White House to Andrews Air Force Base, and from there Air Force One took him and his family home in California.
